Job Summary:

At Chesterton, we have a laser focus on our customers. This job impacts the customer by increasing our cost competitiveness while maintaining high quality standards for raw materials. The Buyer coordinates and manages all activities relating to transactional processing of purchase orders. Responsible for purchase order vendor acknowledgement process and on time delivery performance.

Job Model:  Hybrid

All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense.

 

Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager.

 

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Follows ordering policies as defined by materials management for each commodity.
  • Reviews and evaluates planned daily MRP orders and take appropriate action.
  • Prepares and enters purchase orders into the materials business system, obtains supplier acknowledgement and monitors Open Purchase Order report to ensure On Time Delivery.
  • Maintains Data Quality in Procurement Fields in DAX (Pricing, Lead Time, MOQ, Approved Vendors, Material Category, etc.).
  • Monitor and Respond to Special Requests from CRM/CST in a timely fashion.
  • Manages the replenishment of Kanban and/or supplier consigned inventory for designated parts.
  • Processes non-conforming material reports for defective material to ensure problems are resolved, containment is achieved, and replacement material is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a liaison between suppliers and Chesterton’s Finance group on issues including invoices, payment terms, and payment method.
  • Works with the Logistics team to ensure supplier compliance with freight and shipping procedures, assist in resolving freight claims and issues, and utilizes cost effective and efficient shipping methods.
  • Actively participates in lean/six sigma improvement activities within and outside the materials team.

  • Requires analytical application of principles, theories, and concepts in the field. Strong knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Provides solutions to a range of problems and seek out additional resources as needed. Solutions are imaginative and thorough.
  • Ability to be a mentor and mentee in a team environment
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer/supplier contacts are expected. Professionally represents the team and Chesterton in a variety of issues associated with specific projects

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of minimal supply chain experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Developed decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with moderate direction.
  • Function well in a dynamic environment and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as required.
