This job can be described as:

Responsible for performing various functions associated with the repair and exchange of seal assemblies under the Chesterton Exchange/Repair programs. Receives and disassembles incoming seal assemblies requiring extensive knowledge of Chesterton Seal designations and component parts. Sets up and operates both simple and complex machinery, including sandblasting/filtering units, buffing wheels, bench thread tappers, ultrasonic cleaners, industrial oven, and general shop equipment. Operates hand/power and air tools. Reads assembly and manufacturing drawings. Performs routine in process quality control functions. May perform final quality control inspection on completed reworked exchange components. May provide direction to other employees as required. Responsible for the assembly of complex mechanical seals with up to five sub-assemblies in the Bill of Material (B.O.M.). Operates automatic and semi-automatic assembly test equipment.

Job Model:  On-Site

All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense.

 

Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager.

 

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

A typical day at work would include:

  • Receives and disassembles incoming seal assemblies based on established work procedures and instructions. Must be capable of following detailed, procedures and verbal instruction.
  • Performs specialized tasks as required. Sets up and operates machinery, ie, sandblasting/filtering units, buffing wheels, and ultrasonic cleaners. May operate lathe and bridgeport machines.
  • Operates various hand and power tools, bench grinders, hand tappers, manual presses, and other manual equipment used in re-work and assembly/testing area.
  • Sets up and operates manual gasket cutting equipment following print dimensions and gasket material callouts.
  • Production order process. Will generate, validate and post picking lists. Generate, validate and post route cards. Report as finished and end production orders.
  • May perform re-work assignments as required.
  • Consults shop order to determine parts needed for the seal assembly. Retrieves component parts from inventory locations for purposes of assembly based on both shop order and customer input.
  • Confirms that stock is put away into designated inventory locations based on inventory data supplied via shop and/or purchase receivers.
  • Tests seal using automatic and semi-automatic vacuum and/or pressure test equipment. Maintains clean assembly area. Performs in process Q.C. inspections
  • Validates accuracy of components to shop order by part # and various inspection criteria.
  • Enter transfer orders, ship and receive them. Receive purchase orders. Does cycle count and enter transactions.
  • Identifies and selects appropriate packaging for each assembled seal in accordance with the shop order.
  • Maintains complete documentation of cell operation.
  • May wash and/or bake components of seal assemblies.
  • May press carbons into components that require them.
  • Performs in-process quality control functions based on established engineering standards. May perform routine visual, mechanical, functional and/or dimensional inspection using a wide variety of test instruments and equipment, including vernier calipers, height gauges, dial indicators and thread gages.
  • Operates and maintains fork truck as needed.

 

Experience you need coming into this job:

  • 4-6 years related experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Handles moderate to complex issues.
  • Experience with general shop equipment (hand tools, small basic machinery) required.
  • Ability to work according to written/verbal instructions and procedures which will ensure safety on the job and efficient effective exchange/repair/ re-work processes.
  • Experience with complex machinery. Ability to improvise when specific daily tools are not available or damaged.
  • Knowledge of Chesterton Seal designations and component parts strongly preferred. Ability to apply knowledge of seals in performing rework operations. Solid understanding of entire Exchange operation.
  • Ability to train and/or provide direction to others as needed.
  • Thorough and complete understanding of quality control principles.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of seals in performing rework operations. Solid understanding of entire Exchange operation.
  • Ability to make decisions based on a predetermined set of parameters. Ability to apply knowledge to generate solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work well with others.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust vision. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with the ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance. May be required to crouch, kneel or bend and reach above shoulder height. While performing the duties of the job the employee works near moving mechanical parts. Exposure to high levels of noise and temperature in the work environment.
