This job can be described as:

At Chesterton, we have a laser focus on our customers. Logistics Associate is responsible for managing the flow of materials within the warehouse, including receiving, storing, and shipping products. This role involves accurately handling inventory, ensuring proper packaging, and coordinating shipments, while also supporting material movement and organization across the facility.

Job Model:  On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

A typical day at work would include:

  • Entering and updating data daily for incoming and stocked items in the company's ERP system to ensure accuracy.
  • Verifying the receipt of materials against packing lists to ensure accuracy in inventory transactions.
  • Collaborating closely with Value Stream members to resolve transaction issues, inventory discrepancies, and material movement concerns, including conducting root cause analysis for missing inventory.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring proper placement and labeling of materials in applicable systems.
  • Rotating materials for shipments and storage in accordance with FIFO (First In, First Out) accounting standards.
  • Using D365 to execute orders and create inventory inquiries for picking, packing, staging, and receiving orders.
  • Packaging customer orders using proper packaging and labeling methods, ensuring compliance with system instructions.
  • Preparing shipping documents such as truck bills of lading, domestic air freight forms, and export documents for international shipments as necessary.
  • Using the computer system to accurately calculate charges, weights, and measurements of materials and finished goods.
  • Physically placing incoming materials (raw materials, finished goods, and purchased items for resale) in appropriate locations and transacting them systematically.
  • Managing the shipping and receiving of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials while complying with safety regulations.
  • Coordinating shipments domestically.
  • Assisting in the loading of daily truck shipments and maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Operating and maintaining forklifts and other material-handling equipment as needed.
  • Conducting daily, system-generated cycle counts of inventory and reporting findings to a data processor.
  • Accurately picking and packing component and customer orders in accordance with department procedures and quality metrics, ensuring correct packaging and labeling methods.
  • Be able to discuss responsibility for managing and staging materials for pump service jobs, coordinating with planning and production when all parts have been received, assembling kits of parts by job number and deliver to mechanics when needed for assembly and monitor and communicate status of delayed shipments in collaboration with purchasing.
  • Scrapping damaged items in accordance with company procedures and transacting out damaged products.
  • Remaining available during off-schedule hours as required to meet business needs (subject to On-Call Policy).

 

Experience you need coming into this job:

  • 2-4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • High School, Trade School, or equivalent experience.
  • Works under general direction and follows detailed written and/or verbal instructions/procedures which will ensure safety on the job and efficient, effective inventory management process.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. as needed for the role.
  • Ability to operate a computer / keyboard in accordance to the standards and requirements of the job.
  • Experience with ERP software desired.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Abides by safe material handling techniques when managing materials and supplies.
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license (company will provide training).
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced manufacturing operation. Able work in noisy environments with no air conditioning during summer months.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to climb stairs on a regular basis. Ability to stand or walk during your shift on cement floors for a duration up to an hour.

 

Employees assigned to certain tasks within this job may be required to participate in our Medical Surveillance Program. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Loud noise (i.e.: Manufacturing machines, computer printers, traffic) exists daily in the work environment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. Ability to climb stairs on a regular basis. Ability to stand or walk during your shift on cement floors for a duration up to an hour. Ability to work and walk about in a manufacturing shop floor environment, wear required protective clothing, i.e., steel toe shoes and safety glasses. Ability to operate forklift.

Targeted pay range: $20/hr. - $22/hr.

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($20/hr. - $22/hr.. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
