Overview

**This position will be based on-site at BASF, our long-time customer located in Hannibal, MO**

 

Job Summary:

The Reliability Specialist provides on-site reliability support for rotating equipment. Provides all on-site technical support for fixed fee sealing device and Reliability Improvement contracts including: inventory management, reliability analysis, sealing device upgrade management, pumping system design and upgrade analysis recommendations. This position works directly with plant personnel to target specific areas of rotating equipment improvement and is responsible for facilitating implementation of those improvements. This includes monitoring rotating equipment, providing repair or improvement recommendations, and offering daily support for issues encountered by operations and maintenance teams. This role may also involve assisting in project design to enhance the reliability of rotating equipment and contributing to maintenance processes aimed at optimizing equipment performance and minimizing downtime.

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise on rotating machinery for projects, studies, and plant issues.
  • Manage the performance of customer plant reliability program.
  • Inspect new installations and recommend modifications when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive maintenance plan for equipment.
  • Assist operations with mechanical seal tear-down, inspection, and assembly.
  • Conduct failure analysis on mechanical seals and communicate findings.
  • Participate in rotating equipment investigations, providing action items and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments; including Maintenance, Operations, and Process Engineering to support repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Address issues related to material changes or equipment modifications.
  • Review seal and component materials, proposals, layouts, and assembly drawings.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year end reports and recommendations.
  • Observe field performance, collect customer data, and assess results.
  • Mentor engineers and plant personnel on best practices for machinery reliability.

 

Complexity of Duties:

  • Works independently, with limited supervision. Follows established procedures and work instructions.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable technology source of all rotating machinery in the factory.
  • Work closely with industry technical experts and contract personnel on rotating equipment reliability-related improvement efforts.
  • Must maintain open communications between the Customer, Chesterton Sales, and the CSS group.
  • Contacts are both internal and external, across all lines within the organization, distribution points and customer personnel globally.
  • Proactively works to improve the customers Chesterton experience.
  • Must work to the site’s schedule, including emergency situations (nights and/or weekends when necessary).

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 4 - 6 years of related experience
  • Working knowledge of rotating equipment, pumping systems, sealing devices, and pump repair required.
  • Engineering experience a plus
  • Hazardous materials training

Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds if needed. Moderate to high noise and/or temperatures may exist daily in the work environment. Ability to travel required.

Targeted pay range: $75,000 - $85,000/annually

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($75,000 - $85,000/yr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

 

Please note that the final salary offered for any position will be based on many factors, including but not limited to: candidate qualifications such as education and experience, internal equity, geographical location, and budget. Please note, it is not the company's usual practice to hire near or at the top of a pay range for any position that is available.
