Job Summary:

The Service Engineer is responsible for contributing technical and project engineering expertise to our seal repair activities. and executing the development and dissemination of Seal Condition Reports and Failure analyses. Additional activities will include the performance of inspections, dispositions, repair recommendations, technical support in the execution of the elected repairs, issuing of clear work instructions, quality and CAD work, and making sure customer and internal questions are answered promptly.

 

The Service Engineer is the recognized technical resource at the repair facility and will engage with recognized technical authorities, internal staff, suppliers and customer personnel as required to ensure the mechanical integrity of the repair & Condition/Failure reporting processes.

Job Model:  On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the teardown, evaluation and reporting of all Seal Failure Analysis requests
  • Own the reporting process for SFA & SCR’s and ensure they are in compliance with Chesterton Engineering standards.
  • Serve as key engineering representative within the repair center.
  • Issue seal repair recommendations and dispositions
  • Responsible for acceptance/rejection of items outside technical tolerances and specifications
  • Manage root cause analysis and seal failure analysis efforts within the shop
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for technical matters regarding seal repair
  • Reverse engineering and CAD modeling of parts as required for seal engineering tasks
  • Lead projects involving multiple shop disciplines
  • Interface with sales and operations for technical proposals
  • Define work scope and cost estimation for engineering services
  • Write and review technical reports, memos, and presentations
  • Prepare and conduct technical trainings
  • Support Quality/Lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts within the repair shop
  • Inspects assembled equipment to ensure proper installation.
  • Performs hands-on troubleshooting, service, and repairs.
  • Interacts with customers regarding the status of repairs as appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains service information in the company database.

 

Complexity of Duties:

  • Work is performed with minimal direction in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Must be able to plan, schedule and arrange own activities in order to accomplish the overall goals and objectives of the business plan.
  • Must maintain open communications between the Customer, Chesterton Sales, and the CSS group.
  • Contacts are both internal and external, across all lines within the organization, distribution points and customer personnel globally.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • 2 -4 years related experience
  • Working knowledge of rotating equipment, pumping systems, sealing devices, and pump repair required.

  • Must be proactive in working ahead of what tasks/projects are to be completed.
  • Must adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and pro-actively respond to the changes in Chesterton’s business strategy.

Targeted pay range: $75,000 - $85,000/yr.

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ( $75,000 - $85,000/yr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
