This job can be described as:

This role is a blended quality inspector/safety coordinator position. This position will be responsible for setting up and performing a variety of inspections on purchased or manufactured material to ensure compliance with customer, quality and company requirements. Required safety focus duties include writing reports, keeping records of safety program; supporting the organization by implementing safety standards and procedures, safety training/certifications and responding to emergencies. This role will be required to work with all different departments within the organization to aid with problem solving processes to rectify out-of-specification events. This role will also facilitate and lead in the management of operation-specific health and safety hazard assessments and the development of risk mitigation plans.

Job Model:  On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

A typical day at work would include:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the inspection and test criteria including documentation.
  • Documents non-conformances as appropriate, i.e. NCMR’s.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials and machined product to determine acceptability in accordance with quality plans, engineering drawings, specifications or procedures.
  • Inspect first run and production parts where standard tools are not available and special tools and layouts may be required.
  • Processing and dispositioning of RMA’s.
  • Performs a variety of simple to complex statistical procedures for quality control, when applicable.
  • Maintains quality records for the department according to ISO standards and Chesterton Quality System principles.
  • Coordinates the process of component/material certification for first runs.
  • Maintains and adheres to QC standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains and adheres to quality control work instructions.
  • Assists technical, manufacturing, and customer personnel in the investigation, corrective action and verification of customer and/or process problems, including customer relations.
  • Makes recommendations and/or contributions regarding solutions to new techniques.
  • Conducts routine safety reviews as well as reviews of changes to equipment, processes and products to manage optimal safety in the workplace.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate and/or local safety policies, standards and procedures.
  • Actively participates and facilitates all factory led safety team meetings.
  • Leads investigation of work-related injuries in conjunction with supervisors/managers, facilitates action planning to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Coordinates reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace injuries when they occur and ensures corporate reporting standards are followed.
  • Participate and support the Corporate Safety sponsored programs.

 

Experience you need coming into this job:

  • 4-6 years related experience in a quality environment.
  • Thorough experience in safety practices within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use all types of inspection tools and equipment to ensure adherence to specification requirements, including set-up.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings, including Engineering Specifications for component compliance.
  • Ability to investigate process and/or customer service problems and suggest corrective actions.
  • Ability to work well with multiple functions of the organization.
  • Ability to investigate and solve a variety of technical, quality and process problems.
  • Erroneous decisions or recommendations, including incorrect inspection data, may cause delays in production schedules.
  • Strong math, writing, analytical and computer skills to ensure effective and accurate condition reports.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA-30 Hour Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality control principles and the ability to follow standard operating procedures.

Targeted pay range: $30/hr. - $32/hr. depending on experience

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($30/hr. - $32/hr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

 

Please note that the final salary offered for any position will be based on many factors, including but not limited to: candidate qualifications such as education and experience, internal equity, geographical location, and budget.
