Job Summary:

The Value Stream Sr. Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring the product innovation roadmap and associated product specifications/drawings and tolerances align with manufacturing capabilities and ensures all first article dimensions align with the specifications/drawings. This candidate must have a relentless commitment to quality and speed in order to ensure Chesterton products outperform our competitors and always represent the premium value of our brand. This position is responsible for the deployment of Lean Design and Development principles within the Value Stream to optimize profitability for Chesterton. The role serves as the primary liaison between Global Research and Development Engineering and Manufacturing Operations. This role is responsible for the stewardship and accuracy of all specifications, bill of material and drawings to support product quality consistency and manufacturing efficiencies during mass production. The role also serves as the NPI representative for the Value Stream and works constructively with Global Research and Development Engineering to ensure an effective transition to mass production is realized. This role also provides Product Data Management and CNC programing leadership support. The mentoring and development of all Value Stream Process Engineers is an essential success factor associated with this role.

Job Model:  On-Site

All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense.

 

Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager.

 

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding manufacturing capabilities, evolving industry needs, and resultant requirements of our products.
  • Maintaining NPI leadership responsibility to ensure the product design can be built in high volume, efficient manufacturing environment with the highest of quality standards to achieve an exceptional customer experience.
  • Working directly with Value Stream Process Engineering to establish specification/drawing and bill of material controls to ensure only accurate information is delivered to manufacturing.
  • Working with Process Engineering to problem solve issues related to Standard Product and resolve or, when required, revert back to Global Research and Development Engineering to address design failure modes.
  • Facilitate the efficient and expeditious manufacturing, assembly and testing of engineered solution products as part of a hand-off action from Engineered Solutions Design Team.
  • Working with marketing to understand new product prioritization plans and determine manufacturing process impacts to prepare for an efficient product launch process.
  • Working with manufacturing leadership to develop time study disciplines to ensure routing results are accurately reflecting the manufacturing processing.
  • Working directly with Value Stream Procurement and Vendor Quality teams to ensure suppliers performance is monitored and to ensure suppliers are provided with accurate information to aid in their success.
  • Provide technical sourcing support to include specifications drawings and technical communications.
  • Providing technical assistance to marketing and sales teams.
  • Participating in quality investigations and quality improvement initiatives in support of service to the customer.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Value Stream engineering labor resources are adequate and properly prepared.
  • Managing the CNC Programing and Product Data Management functions within the Value Stream.
  • Participating in fixture/tooling design reviews and in creating and managing end-of-line test plans.
  • Active participation in cost reduction projects (alternative material discovery, manufacturing efficiency improvements, design to cost principles).
  • Occasional requirement of making presentations to upper management on projects/development
  • Occasional required attendance of industry trade shows, expositions, conferences
  • Create development plans and monitor execution associated with the Value Stream Process Engineers.
  • Lead with a relentless commitment to performance, accountability, problem solving and service to the customer.

 

Complexity of Duties:

  • Works under minimal supervision. Must be capable of working independently and as a team player. Must be able to set direction for daily work in the absence of the Dept. Supervisor.
  • Qualified. Must possess thorough understanding of NPI, engineering principles and practices, materials, manufacturing, costing and planning functions as well as a solid understanding of a product and process change control.
  • Ability to provide solutions to a wide variety of problems and use sound judgment in decision-making processes. Failure to do so may cause delays in program schedules and result in the allocation of additional resources. Ability to quickly learn and understand new and upgraded business systems.
  • Ability to interact well at all levels of the organization. Ability to function as a liaison between Customer Service, Manufacturing and Engineering. Must be able to represent the organization regarding specific issues or projects as necessary.

  • Knowledge of mechanical seals, centrifugal or axial flow pumps, compressors or similar turbomachinery
  • Experience working in a high mix, low volume customized manufacturing environment and high volume manufacturing
  • Experience with wastewater, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, chemical processing and mining applications
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards (API 610 / 682, NSF, FDA, ASME B73, ASME BPVC, HI, ISO, ATEX, etc.)

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in engineering with manufacturing experience.
  • New Product Introduction stage gate experience.
  • Process Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience a plus.
  • 8 - 10 years of job related experience.
  • 8 - 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Targeted pay range: $145,000 - $150,000/yr. depending on experience

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($145,000 - $150,000/yr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview.
