Job Summary:

A Process Engineer III designs, implements, monitors, and optimizes industrial processes to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality in various industries like manufacturing, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Key responsibilities include analyzing workflows, developing documentation, troubleshooting issues, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and new technologies. This role requires good knowledge in methodologies such as six sigma and Lean.

Job Model:  On-Site

All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense.

 

Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager.

 

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and modify industrial processes to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize waste.
  • Assess processes, interpret data, perform simulations, and conduct experiments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Design, test, and troubleshoot equipment, as well as plan and install operational systems.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operating instructions, and ensure processes adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve problems within existing or new processes, often involving designs, materials, or equipment.
  • Service, maintain, and ensure production equipment and facilities are in proper working order.
  • Manage process improvement initiatives, track project status, and report on key metrics and objectives.

 

Complexity of Duties:

  • Works without supervision. Independent action required and inter-functional coordination.
  • Handles complex issues.
  • Manages a multitude of tasks at one time and effectively prioritizes these tasks.
  • Experienced, thorough understanding of equipment and materials (chemicals).
  • Contacts are with the product development, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing groups as well as with suppliers (as needed).
  • Ability to document linkage of all product components, specifications and processes for product traceability.
  • Justifies capital equipment expenditures and is responsible for cost reduction activities. Failure to obtain results and/or poor decisions may result in manufacturing delays and/or considerable expenditure of resources.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in manufacturing environment on a regular basis.
  • Ability to have frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Ability to provide technical assistance and manage special projects as required.

  • Ability to work in an ISO 9001;2008 and ISO 14001;2004 environment.
  • Expertise in process engineering software, process simulation, and a strong understanding of relevant industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities to evaluate processes and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with teams, document findings, and present proposals to management.
  • Skills in managing and coordinating projects to ensure timely and efficient implementation of changes.
  • Knowledge of process management software, data analysis tools, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including management, engineering, and production staff.
  • Knowledgeable with process improvement methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD systems, preferably Solid Works.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent related experience.
  • 4 - 6 years with process engineering experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with CAD/CAM systems.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong business systems knowledge.
  • Mechanical processes aptitude.
 
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Good written/verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills - current applications i.e. MS Word, Excel and Access.
  • Solid organizational skills with ability to manage many projects at one time.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear and reach with hands and arms. At times, 50 to 60 pound bags or pails must be carried and handled. Safety glasses and safety shoes are required in many areas, and on occasion a respirator must be used. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Moderate to heavy noise, i.e.: mixers, packaging equipment, fork truck and foot traffic exists daily in the work environment. Ability to work with and around chemicals.

Targeted pay range: $110,000 - $115,000/yr. depending on experience

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($110,000 - $115,000/yr. DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
